Analysis of Dynamic Recrystallization of Ice from EBSD Orientation Mapping

چکیده
We present high resolution observations of microstructure and texture evolution during dynamic recrystallization (DRX) of ice polycrystals deformed in the laboratory at high temperature (≈0.98Tm). Ice possesses a significant viscoplastic anisotropy that induces strong strain heterogeneities, which result in an early occurrence of DRX mechanisms. It is therefore a model material to explore these mechanisms. High resolution c-axis measurements at sample scale by optical techniques and full crystallographic orientation measurements by cryo-Electron Back Scattering Diffraction (EBSD) provide a solid database for analyzing the relative impact of themacroscopic imposed stress vs. the local and internal stress fields on DRX mechanisms. Analysis of misorientation gradients in the EBSD data highlights a heterogeneous dislocation distribution, which is quantified by the Nye tensor estimation. Joint analyses of the dislocation density maps and microstructural observations highlight spatial correlation between high dislocation density sites and the onset of nucleation taking place by grain-boundary bulging, subgrain rotation or by the formation of kink-bands.

Discontinuous Dynamic Recrystallization during Accumulative Back Extrusion of a Magnesium Alloy
The study of nucleation mechanism of new grains during severe plastic deformation of magnesium alloys is of great importance to control the characteristics of final microstructures. The evolution of texture as a function of recrystallization has been characterized for hot-rolled AA1050. Samples prepared from a hot rolled sheet were annealed isothermally for sufficient time to allow complete recrystallization. The spatial orientation variation within the deformed microstructure of nucleation, growth and orientations of recrystallized grains is examined. The microstructural ...

An ultrafine/nano grained AZ31 magnesium alloy was produced through four-pass ECAP processing. TEM microscopy indicated that recrystallized regions included nano grains of 75 nm. Pole figures showed that a fiber basal texture with two-pole peaks was developed after four passes, where a basal pole peak lies parallel to the extrusion direction (ED) and the other ~20° away from the transverse dire...
متن کاملInvestigation of nucleation processes during dynamic recrystallization of ice using cryo-EBSD.
Nucleation mechanisms occurring during dynamic recrystallization play a crucial role in the evolution of microstructures and textures during high temperature deformation. In polycrystalline ice, the strong viscoplastic anisotropy induces high strain heterogeneities between grains which control the recrystallization mechanisms. Here, we study the nucleation mechanisms occurring during creep test...
